Colour Queen

While many celebrity colourists bask in the glory of their clientele, others work away quietly under the radar, creating iconic showbiz images and they discretely tend to the locks of their famous clients.

Heidi G is such a colourist and for 26 years has worked in some of the world’s best salons, leading their colour departments. She started her career at the age of 16, when she went to work at Vidal Sassoon under the guidance of legendary artist Annie Humphries and international colourist Lesley Jennison.

As a senior colourist she worked at Sassoon’s salon in Sloane Square, the branch stars flock to. It was there she struck up a friendship with Josh Wood, the world renowned colourist whose clients include Kylie, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jerry Hall.

Josh became a mentor to Heidi, helping to take her career to a new level. It wasn’t long before Heidi, who is originally from Kent, was headhunted by the organic hair company Aveda, where she led their colour department.

She began to combine her make-up skills with her sensational colour artistry, taking inspiration from make-up artists such as Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath.

When her friend Josh opened Real Hair, Heidi went back to work him and became the most talked about colourist in the business.
She is currently working with Josh in his new satellite salon, Josh Woods Atelier in London’s fashionable Holland Park.

Heidi is in constant demand for photoshoots, catwalk shows and travels the world educating in the art of colouring. She works with Wella, Eugene Souleiman and Gudio Palau.

Though not keen to talk about her celebrity clients, Heidi does admit that Annie Lenox and Tamara Beckwith’s legendary locks are among those she tends to.
